Our Mission Statement
FCSS believes in the value of the individual, the strength of the family and the support of people
working together to achieve a healthy, supportive community. Our philosophy is “people helping
people to help themselves”. Volunteer assistance is greatly relied upon and we welcome
community input and direction. |

Information and Referral
1. FCSS provides Information and Referral services to assist community individuals and
agencies on anything from counseling service referrals to “do you know where I can…?”
questions to services for any age group in the community of Elk Point. In other words, if you
have a question or need assistance… we’ll try to help you find the answer.
2. FCSS coordinates annually, the second Tuesday in September from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. an
Information Night. This gives residents an opportunity to gain more information on family,
educational, and recreational services as well as organization and club activities available
in Elk Point. The evening also provides an opportunity to register in some of the activities.
3. FCSS annually publishes a Community Information Directory that lists emergency and
frequently used numbers as well as a descriptive listing of local community clubs and
organizations. Contact names and numbers are also listed.
4. FCSS houses the source input to our Community TV Channel. This free community service
assists individuals and non-profit organizations in promoting services and special events.
5. FCSS assisted the Interagency Committee in putting together the Individual, Family and
Community Support Contact or Help Phone Numbers for the Community of Elk Point its
renewal is now completed every two years by the FCSS office. This Directory is a quick
reference guide to the contact numbers for a variety of services in and around our
community.
6. FCSS is an active member of the Elk Point Interagency. We collaborate with other human
service agencies to meet the needs of the Elk Point Community in a more complete way.
We all share information so that all of us can better work together. |
Volunteerism
FCSS facilitates and promotes awareness of volunteerism. We work with many volunteers in the
community and we actively participate in Volunteer Appreciation Week. |
Prevention Programs - Children
FCSS in partnership with the local RCMP is responsible for the Block Parent Program. |
Prevention Programs - Youth
1. FCSS sponsors the St. John Ambulance First Aid Babysitting Course which is offered as often
as needed by request. Upon completion of the course, the youth receive a St. John’s
Babysitting Certificate.
2. FCSS has introduced the Home Alone Safely course as devised by Lethbridge Community
College. This course is a preventative course for young children and their siblings under
parent support in how to best conduct their selves while they are home alone for short
periods of time |
Prevention Programs - Families
1. In partnership with the business community and local organizations, FCSS provides a positive
and personal welcome to new residents in Elk Point through the Welcome Package
program. Families are introduced to what services are available in our community.
2. Over the years, FCSS has made donations to our local library to purchase Family Life
Resources on any possible area of family life situations. We have also accumulated material
which is available in our office.
3. On any individual, family and community interest topic relating to FCSS, the Director submits
a weekly newspaper article “from the FCSS desk…” |
Prevention Programs - Seniors
1. The Meals-On-Wheels program is a joint project between the Elk Point Health Centre and
FCSS. Hot and nourishing meals are delivered to people who need them.
2. As a joint project with Revenue Canada and FCSS, volunteers receive training and
instruction on completion of current income tax forms through the Community Volunteer
Income Tax Program. Volunteers assist seniors or any low income person in completion of
their income tax forms.
3. FCSS is also available to help seniors with the completion of any forms. |
Other Community Involvement
FCSS is involved in a wide range of activities as the need arises. For example; during the Christmas
Season, we provide facility use for the Community Lions and their Santa’s Anonymous campaign.
FCSS is involved in such events as Canada Day Celebrations.
FCSS is a participating member of the Elk Point and District Interagency Health Committee, and the
Elk Point and District Community Policing Advisory Committee. |
We are always open to suggestions and ideas from citizens of our community who ask us for
assistance in helping to keep Elk Point as a friendly, healthy and happy community in which to live.
During FCSS office hours, we provide the following:
FAX: $1.00 per page to send and $0.50 per page to receive.
Photocopying: $0.10 for letter or $0.15 for legal single sided; these are $0.05 and $0.10 if you bring
your own paper. Back to back is an extra $0.05 per page.
Laminating: $1.00 for letter size. If larger, the cost is $1.25. If smaller, the cost is $0.50. |
