Alberta's Iron Horse Trail is 300 kilometers of former railroad right-of- way which has been developed into a multi-use trail and is part of the Trans Canada Trail System. The trail passes through a mosaic of ecological settings: boreal forest, parkland, farmland and wetlands. |

As well it connects many communities, events and attractions in Alberta's Lakeland region. Volunteer organizations work hard to keep the trail maintained and groomed, for year-round use and it is open to Alberta trail compliant all-terrain vehicles, horses, foot and bicycles traffic. While you are in Elk Point we have things to do and see. Walk downtown right from our staging area and visit our great shops. We have a bakery, major food store, antique store and other great businesses. Take a walk to our 100 history mural located next to our library and visit our 34 foot statue of Peter Fidler an early surveyor. From the trail you can get to Fort George Buckingham House interpretive center where interactive displays capture the imagination of the whole family. The trail also connects to our Golf Course and Campground located on the west side of Elk Point. A trip down the hill through the valley, crossing a bridge is breathtaking. |
