Fort George & Buckingham House
Fort George & Buckingham House
Located just outside Elk Point, Fort George & Buckingham House offers visitors a glimpse into our early fur trade past.
The Interpretive Centre offers visitors a glimpse into the dreams of Louis the voyageur; a chance to listen in as William Tomison, the Hudson’s Bay Company’s Inland Chief, reflects and writes in his journal; and an introduction to Nestichio, who was a “Country Wife”, to learn about the important role she and other women played in linking different cultures.
troll down the beautiful wooded interpretive path to the archaeological sites of the two forts, and stand where history really happened.
Guided tours, group Education programs and special events are offered. Located 13 km southeast of Elk Point via Hwy #646, follow the signs.
Fort George and Buckingham House were built practically side by side high on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River. Today you can take guided tour, stand where the forts once stood and imagine what life was like 225 years ago.
